Planning a proposal is a huge moment - and it all happens in seconds. As a Bristol-based wedding photographer, I've also had the honour of capturing several secret proposals, documenting the genuine reactions, emotion, and atmosphere as it naturally unfolds. The Planning - How to Arrange a Secret Proposal
I’ve been lucky enough to capture quite a few secret proposals over the years (and almost a 1000 weddings), so you’re definitely in safe hands. We’ll talk through locations, timings, and all the little details that make the moment run smoothly. Choosing the Perfect Proposal Spot
Your proposal location can be just about anywhere. A lot of my recent secret proposals have taken place around the Clifton Suspension Bridge, but often couples choose somewhere that has personal meaning to them. The most important thing is picking a place that feels right for you both - not just somewhere that looks good in photos (although that’s a nice bonus too!).
How It Works on the Day
On the day of your proposal, I’ll already be in place and ready without drawing any attention. Everything is planned carefully in advance so the moment feels completely natural and stress-free for you. I’ll discreetly capture the proposal as it happens, along with those immediate reactions afterwards. If you’d like, we can also take a few relaxed portraits once the excitement has settled - nothing rushed, just natural images to celebrate the moment.
Keeping the Secret Safe
I completely understand how important it is to keep everything under wraps. We’ll plan things in a way that feels natural and doesn’t raise any suspicion. I can help you decide the best way to communicate on the day, including timing your arrival and how we’ll position ourselves so everything stays a surprise right up to the moment itself.
After the Proposal
Once the big moment has happened, there’s usually a lovely sense of relief and excitement. If you’re up for it, we can take a short walk and capture some relaxed, natural portraits while everything is still fresh. These are often some of the most genuine and emotional images from the whole experience.

Bristol has some incredible spots for proposals, from iconic viewpoints to quieter hidden corners. Some popular choices include the Clifton Suspension Bridge by the Clifton Observatory, the Downs, and Brandon Hill. That said, I’m always happy to help you find somewhere a little more private or personal if you already have a meaningful location in mind.
